COC-L: Miyazaki takes second event in Rena
Aug 31, 2018·Nordic CombinedAyane Miyazaki from Japan turned the tables on yesterday’s winner Stefaniya Nadymova in the second of two Ladies’ Continental Cup events in Rena. After narrowly losing out to the Russian, Miyazaki won by 11.7 seconds today. The third place went to Germany’s Jenny Nowak again, this time with a big time gap of one minute and 21 seconds.
Miyazaki’s 101 metres were the only jump over 100 metres today and gave the Japanese 110.6 points. This put her 20 seconds in the lead over her Russian competitor Nadymova, who had landed at 98.5 metres. Jenny Nowak only had 93 metres to show for, which gave her a disadvantage of one minute and eight seconds to contend with. Only two seconds later, Italy’s Veronica Gianmoena started after a jump of 92.5 metres and 93.1 points.
In the 5 km race, Nadymova fought to take in her disadvantage again and the second-fastest time of the race had her shaving off eight seconds of Miyazaki’s 20-second advantage but the Japanese still skied to a safe victory after 16 minutes and 23 seconds of racing. The fastest woman on the track was Norway’s Hanna Midtsundstad, who needed 16:10.4 for the 5 km but was only able to improve from position ten to nine.
Jenny Nowak lost some seconds on the two faster skiers in front but Gianmoena was not able to match her pace and finally finished over 20 seconds after Nowak. Gyda Westfold Hansen (NOR) wrestled down a group consisting of Sophia Maurus (GER), Marte Leinan Lund (NOR) and Simona Weinlichova (CZE) to take the fifth place.
