COC-L: Stefaniya Nadymova prevails in Nizhny Tagil

Russia’s Stefaniya Nadymova has taken a big step in the direction of the inaugural overall COC victory in Ladies’ Nordic Combined with a victory in Nizhny Tagil today. Nadymova beat her biggest rival, Ayane Miyazaki from Japan by 6.6 seconds in the end. Nadymova’s teammate Anastasia Goncharova claimed the third place after setting the fastest skiing time and brushing by German Jenny Nowak, who had to be contend with the fourth place today.

In the jumping part, Nadymova claimed a narrow lead of two seconds over Miyazaki after a jump of 95 metres. 107.6 points put her in the pole position for the race, while the Japanese showed 92 metres (107.2 p.). Italian Veronica Gianmoena jumped to the third intermediate position with 85 metres but a delay of 56 seconds already put her at a big disadvantage compared to the two leaders. Gianmoena was pursued by Jenny Nowak (87.5 m; +1:11).

Russia’s Anastasia Goncharova started from the seventh position only and with a delay of two minutes and 26 seconds but set a blistering pace on the 5 km course. With the fastest time by over a minute, Goncharova stormed past Anna Aleksandrova, Sophia Maurus, Jenny Nowak and Veronica Gianmoena to claim the third place in the end.

Nadymova made her decisive move around the 3 km mark of the race when she accelerated and managed to open a gap to Miyazaki, who was not able to fully follow the Russian. The Top Ten were completed by Veronica Gianmoena on rank five, Sophia Maurus on six, Yura Murakami as seventh, Svetlana Gladikova finished eights, Anna Aleksandrova ninth and Olga Aristova on ten.
