Continental Cup season begins in Steamboat Springs

Three weeks after the World Cup, the Nordic Combined Continental Cup 2017/18 will also finally begin and first up, the athletes will return to a Nordic Combined heartland: Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Home to many of the big U.S. Nordic Combined names, Steamboat Springs has been a fixture on the World Cup calendar in the 1990s and early 2000s and also hosted five World Cup B / Continental Cup events from 2002 till 2010.
Now international Nordic Combined competitions are being held for the first time in seven years: three Individual Gundersen events are scheduled on the HS 75 hill to kick of the season and a maximum of 300 Continental Cup points can be won. The snow report has been positive: low temperatures enabled the production of a sufficient amount of snow and everything is well-prepared on the jumping hill and cross-country track. Cold temperatures are forecasted also for the upcoming weekend.
A special goodie for all Nordic Combined fans: the three Continental Cup events will be available as a live stream. More information on the livestream will follow before the first event of the weekend.
January will be a busy month for both male and female athletes: Another weekend with three events awaits the male athletes in Klingenthal, Germany in early January, while the Nordic Combined Ladies start their inaugural Continental Cup season with two events together with the Nordic Combined World Cup in Otepää, Estonia.
After this, three events are on schedule in Ruka, Finland on the following weekend for the men before male and female Continental Cup athletes come together for a packed weekend in Rena, Norway at the end of January.
While the FIS Junior World Championships will take the younger athletes and also the ladies to Switzerland from the 27th of January till the 4th of February, the Continental Cup season resumes in Planica, Slowenia on the first weekend of February. Two more events will be held in Eisenerz, Austria in February before the big finals - for men and women - take place in Nizhny Tagil, Russia.
