Eero Hirvonen's Nordic Combined career started at age 12 when he started with ski jumping at the Jväskylä Ski School. Prior to that, he had been involved in many different sports, including endurance races and skiing.

The Finn from from Jyväskylä made his debut on the World Cup tour in March 2015 in Lahti and collected first experiences in the following season. One year later, in the winter of 2016/17, his star rose fully as the then 20-year-old wowed the home crowd with a fourth place, just narrowly missing out on the podium in the first event of the season. Hirvonen did not falter, kept his level up and collected a first reward in form of a second place at the second Finnish venue, in Lahti. Although the 2017 World Championships at the same place came a little too early for the young athlete and his team, Hirvonen can still look back on the season with pride, finishing eighth in the overall rankings.

Hirvonen like to hunt and fish in his free time.
