Exciting Summer Grand Prix on the horizon
Aug 31, 2018·Nordic CombinedWith less than four weeks to go, the Nordic Combined summer season 2018 promises to live up to the expectations set by successful editions of past Summer Grand Prix. From the 17th to 19th August, Oberwiesenthal (GER) will write history with the customary Summer Grand Prix Opener for men and the first-ever edition for the ladies.
“Until now, 56 athletes from eight nations have entered the competitions and we are expecting more. Next to the biggest team, Germany, athletes from the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Japan, Kazakhstan and Russia are on the list”, WSC Erzgebirge Oberwiesenthal CEO Christian Freitag reports. Big names gracing the entry lists so far are last year’s World Cup winner Akito Watabe (JPN), Czech Republic’s Tomas Portyk and Miroslav Dvorak, Team Sprint winners of the past year, World Cup top ten athletes Ilkka Herola and Eero Hirvonen from Finland, France’s medal decorated athletes Francois Braud and Maxime Laheurte and five-man squads from Russia and Kazakhstan respectively.
Fighting for the first-ever ladies’ victories will be Czech Republic’s Simona Weinlichova, Dayana Akhmetvaliyeva from Kazakhstan and strong Russians Svetlana Gladikova, Alexandra Glazunova, Anastasia Goncharova, as well as the inaugural Continental Cup winner Stefaniya Nadymova (RUS). Also here, more names are expected to be released.

A special treat for all media representatives coming to Oberwiesenthal: a press conference with Nordic Combined legend Eric Frenzel and his clubmate Terence Weber will take place on August 13 at 16:30 at the Hüttenbachsaal of the Panorama Hotel Oberwiesenthal. Coach Frank Erlbeck and Jens Anders, President of the ski club SSV Geyer will also be present. Eric Frenzel will be awarded a honorary membership of the ski club WSC Erzgebirge Oberwiesenthal and he will inform on further news.
