FIS Youth Cup looking for first overall winners
Aug 31, 2018·Nordic CombinedWith the FIS Youth Cup finals in Trondheim coming closer, the excitement is rising for the decision of who the first-ever Nordic Combined Youth Cup overall winners will be. On the ladies’ side, this is the first time ever that an overall winner is crowned in the discipline of Nordic Combined.
With two individual events still to go, some categories seem already pretty decided while the fight is still on full throttle in others. A total of 25 ladies and 52 boys are fighting for the last points in the Youth Cup ranking.
Girls Youth I and II
In the two ladies’ categories, the two leaders have a point advantage but the fight is still not over for the older ladies.
In Youth I Girls, German Jenny Nowak can rest comfortably on 560 points out of six competitions and a uncatchable 215 point advantage on Estonia’s Triinu Hausenberg (345). Norwegian Gyda Westvold Hansen currently ranks third with 258 points.
Among the older girls, Estonian Annemarii Bendi is on the best way to take home the overall victory with 371 points but Italian Lisa Moreschini is still in the game with 300. Lisa Eder from Austria currently ranks third with 260 points.
Boys Youth I and II
In the Youth I Boys category, the story looks similar to their female counterparts with German Jan Andersen having a comfortable lead of 180 points on Finland’s Waltteri Karhumaa (340 p.) but Andersen is currently injured and will not be able to take any more points in Norway. This also means a chance to pounce for Estonian Markkus Alter who currently holds 310 points.
The decision for the overall winner of the older boys is still wide open with Finland’s Otto Niittykoski (300 p.), Czech David Zemek (290 p.) and Ukrainian Dmytro Mazurchuk (210 p.) vying for the position.
