Nordic Combined athlete Vinzenz Geiger is one of five nominees for the “Junior Athlete of the Year 2017” award of the Deutsche Sporthilfe. For the first time, all fans can vote for their favourite on an online platform - and win some great prizes in the process.

The “Junior Athlete of the Year” Awards has been handed out for the past 39 years and is the highest award for promising young German athletes in Germany. Winners of the past include Franziska van Almsick (1992, swimming), Timo Boll (1997, table tennis), Maria Höfl-Riesch (2004, Alpine Skiing), Magdalena Neuner (2007/2008, Biathlon) and Laura Dahlmeier (2013, Biathlon).

Fellow nominees this year are: Niklas Kaul (Decathlon), Jacob Schnopf (Canoe), Jessica Tiebel (Luge) and Elena Wassen (Diving). Geiger won the Junior World Champion title in Park City, USA in the past season, as well as claiming his first World Cup podium position in Ramsau am Dachstein (AUT).
