A Guinness World Record for Johannes Rydzek

Six-time World Champion Johannes Rydzek has added another title to his growing collection: Guinness World Record Holder. Rydzek entered the Guinness Book of World Records in uphill running, with the steepest 50 metre sprint of the world.
Tire manufacturer Continental and clothes giant adidas celebrated the second year of partnership with an event called the ContiGripRun 2017. Together with Rydzek and Parcouring Athlete Alexander Schauer, the two companies started their try to set up a new category in the Guinness Book at the Heini Klopfer Ski Flying Hill in Oberstdorf.
27,67 seconds was all it took Rydzek to sprint up the jumping hill - all at a consistent angle of 37 degrees or more. The ski flying hill had been specifically prepared for the record attempt, to enable running and ensure the safety of the participants. 35 seconds was the requirement for the first World Record in uphill running to be measured. After four attempts, official judge Pauline Sapinska from London confirmed the new World record. Competitor Alexander Schauer also showed a strong performance but remained four seconds slower than Rydzek.
“It was a cool result and it is a big honour to be present in the Guinness Book of World Records now. The last ten metres were incredibly tough. I was glad I could rely on the shoes to give me the much-needed grip”, Rydzek said after the competition.
