To describe Hideaki Nagai's career, the words "late bloomer" definitely come to mind. While he made his national debut in Japan as early as 1996, it took him until 2012 to get his first start in the World Cup in Val di Fiemme's Penalty Race of 2012. Head Coach Takanori Kohno explains: "Hideaki Nagai came into the A-Team because he won a national competition in Japan, qualified for the Continental Cup and instantly got points there."

In 20 World Cup starts in 2012 and 2013, Nagai managed to claim solid Top 30 ranks, following up on his performance with seven Top Ten finishes from 2013 until early 2016. In the winter of 2016/17, he enjoyed a "home game" in Sapporo very much, finishing on the sixth and ninth rank respectively.

The married athlete from Ohgaki likes to play soccer and basketball in his spare time and relaxes while fishing or watching a movie.
