Jørgen Graabak takes first-ever jumping win
Aug 31, 2018·Nordic CombinedNorwegian Jørgen Graabak has surprised with his first-ever jumping win in the Provisional Competition Round in Ramsau am Dachstein. The reigning Olympic Champion jumped 98 metres and had a total tally of 121.1 points. This put him one second ahead of a duo on rank two.
Teammate Jarl Magnus Riiber was back in good jumping shape and jumped to 93.5 metres (120.9 p.) from gate 14 on coach request. German youngster Luis Lehnert surprised at his World Cup debut and reached the same amount of points from gate 16. He landed at 97 metres.
Local hero Franz-Josef Rehrl, who starts for the club Ramsau-Steiermark, held the fourth position and would start five seconds after Graabak, should the PCR have to be used in case of bad weather conditions. He was joint in the Top Ten by teammate Lukas Klapfer, Vinzenz Geiger, Jan Schmid, Tomas Portyk, Fabian Rießle and Eero Hirvonen. On rank ten, Hirvonen was just 20 seconds behind the leader.
In typical Ramsau-manner, the field was very tight after the PCR and 21 athletes started within the first minute. As the PCR was also a qualification, nine athletes did not make the cut, among them Paul Gerstgraser and Philipp Orter, Adam Cieslar, Taylor Fletcher and Adam Loomis. Bernhard Flaschberger, Samir Mastiev and Raffaele Buzzi were disqualified due to non-rule conforming jumping suits.
