Kuopio is a city and muncipality in the region of Northern Savonia, Finland and with about 111.000 inhabitants the eighth biggest city in Finland. It is located about 400 km north of the country's capital Helsinki.

Ski Jumping and Nordic winter sports have a long tradition in Kuopio. The first ski jumping competitions took place as early as 1886, a first hill was constructed around 1900. 1949, Finland's biggest hill at the time, a K 90 was constructed at Puijo mountain and today's K 120 large hill was erected in 1997. The facility now consists of the HS 127 large hill, a HS 100 normal hill and three smaller hills (K65, K28, K16).

The Nordic Combined World Cup made a first stop at the venue of Kuopio in 2000 when a Sprint and a Individual Gundersen event was held.
