With a three-competition weekend in Val di Fiemme just past, the Nordic Combined World Cup is well and truly back in action after the Christmas break. Next up is the World Cup in Chaux-Neuve, France, a place known for its big crowds and enthusiastic audience. With French superstar Jason Lamy Chappuis back on board and the Olympic Games coming up, the organisers expect a big turnout and a fantastic atmosphere again.

The stormy winter weather of this week with lots of rain and snow plus bigger amounts of snow, sleet or rain expected on the competition days gave and will give the organisers challenges weather-wise but they are optimistic that the facilities will be well-prepared. The spectators will surely not be prevented to celebrate a huge Nordic Combined party, especially with a team event on schedule on Sunday. At the first team event instalment of this season in Lillehammer, Jason Lamy Chappuis conquered the third place for his squad, which would get the crowds roaring again.

But also in the Individual Gundersen, the road to PyeongChang remains interesting: will World Cup leader Jan Schmid confirm his strong shape with further great results, will his closest pursuer Johannes Rydzek and teammates Fabian Rießle and Eric Frenzel strike back and what will happen to the upward momentum of the Austrian team, who celebrated two podium results last weekend?

With the time until the Olympics ticking away, one thing is for sure. The upcoming weekend in Chaux-Neuve will be everything but boring.
