General Information

With about 100.000 inhabitants, Liberec is the fifth-largest city of the Czech Republic, located on the Lusatian Neisse and surrounded by the Jizera Mountains and the Jested-Kozakov Ridge. It was founded in the 14th century by German and Flemish migrants and was once home to a thriving textile industry.

The venue

The Venue Ještěd is located on the North side of the Ještěd ridge at the level starting from 653 (outrun) to 788 metres above sea level (inrun). The jumping hills were built on the northern slope of Ještěd in the 1970s and carry the indelible signature of Miloslav Bělonožník,  There are two jumping hills, a HS 134 and a HS 100. Both hills are are equipped with floodlights. During extensive remodelling, the judge tower was modernized and the five-floor building is used as a facility for the competition management, for the competition jury, jumping judges, competition offices, and data & timing technology together with technical back offices.

Races also can be held in summer thanks to the ceramic approach track. The venue features one fixed grandstand for spectators where can seat more than 8,000 spectators. The trip from the Ski Jumping Venue Ještěd to the cross country courses in Vesec takes only about 20 minutes.

The Cross Country races take place in the sports venue Vesec, which was completed in 2008. It is situated on the south-eastern side of Liberec at 410 – 460 metres above sea level. The venue was build in connection with the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. The venue features a stadium, the starting and finishing point for all courses. A building for technical and organisational facilities of individual competitions stands next to the stadium.

The stadium surroundings are interwoven with a system of courses, which, when combined, are of various lengths depending on the requirements and types of individual competitions.  All courses are approved and homologated by the International Ski Federation. The venue is equipped with a modern snowmaking system. Competitions are held here not only in winter but also for mountain bikes, athletics, and in-line skating competitions in summer. Venue is also open to the public when no races are scheduled.
