When Mario Seidl entered the World Cup in the winter of 2012/13, he did so with a bang: the young Austrian from St. Veit im Pongau started in the national group at his home competition in Ramsau... and won the jumping part. Between his jump and the end of the competition, the 20-year-old had to spend about 45 minutes out in the rain but braved the challenge with excitement and his own easy-going attitude. Another highlight came when jumping the new hill record in Almaty, Kazakhstan, suddenly changed Seidl into a sought-after athlete, being stormed by journalists' questions in the following press conference.

Steadily developing his skills and raising his level of performance, Seidl was rewarded with a spot on the strong Austrian team and his first individual victory in the Summer Grand Prix in 2015. With a fifth rank in the competition in Trondheim in the winter of 2015/16, Seidl proved he is not far off the podium on his best days.

The winter of 2016/17 marked another step in Seidl's development with the Austrian capturing his first two podium position results at the pre-Olympics in PyeongChang. Seidl's dominant performance on the Korean jumping hill put his name among the pool of Olympic medal contenders. After a good season, the by ten 25-year-old entered the overall Top Ten on rank six, the best Austrian athlete of the season.

In his spare time "Seidei" likes to climb, play soccer or go skiing.
