Mario Seidl takes it all at Austrian nationals
Aug 31, 2018·Nordic CombinedMario Seidl continues in impressive shape and won both Austrian summer national titles, on the normal and large hill, in Villach and Bischofshofen on the past weekend.
Seidl ruled supreme on the large hill, setting the longest jump of the day with 141 metres and distanced his closest rivals, Franz-Josef Rehrl (136 m) and Bernhard Gruber (136.5 m) to 36 and 40 seconds of time behind on the start line. The roller-ski race was held at the Alpenarena in Villach and also here, Seidl shone. In the end, he claimed a clear victory. Falun World Champion Bernhard Gruber arrived at the finish 51.2 seconds later to claim the silver medal. Bronze went to Philipp Orter, +01:27.9.
The event on the normal hill was tighter. Seidl had a shared intermediate first place with Martin Fritz at the jumping event and the pursuing group with Lukas Klapfer, David Pommer and Philipp Orter closed in on the leading duo during the race. Seidl and Philipp Orter worked together to go away from the bigger group on the last lap and finally, Seidl won with a strong finish and beat Orter by 3.2 seconds. Martin Fritz claimed bronze, +7.7 seconds after Seidl.
