Mario Stecher, who was born in Eisenerz, Austria, started ski jumping with seven years on the 20-meters-hill in his hometown. His first start in the World Cup was as early as 1993 in Saalfelden and during his impressive career up until today, he amassed quite the large collection of Olympic and World Championship medals and an extensive number of World Cup starts. But still the old hand is not tired of going after more medals in his career: "If I still have fun and success, like in the last years and also the body is still working well that I would not say that Sochi is not possible. But it's still a long time until the 2014 Olympics and a lot can happen until then", he says.

Mario, who is married to a former alpine skier and sister of Benjamin Raich, Carina. The couple has two sons, David and Luis. Together with his wife, he also rents out an appartement in his residence Arzl im Pitztal, Austria. In his leisure time, Mario likes to play soccer or tennis, climb or ride the bike.
