Mikko KOKSLIEN
Aug 31, 2018·Nordic CombinedMikko Kokslien, who comes from a family of winter sports enthusiasts, started being active on skies at a very early age. He seemed to be predestined for the sport of Nordic Combined as his parents met while both attending cross-country scholarships in the USA and his uncle was on the Finnish ski jumping team. But Mikko, who is half-Finnish, half-Norwegian, explored many different sports like track and field and soccer before finally committing to Nordic Combined.
While having improved vastly in ski jumping in his break-through season 2010/11, his specialty has always been the cross-country part. Because of his impressive performances on cross-country skis, his friends nicknamed him "Mikko the Machine". Generally, openness, friendliness and an always positive attitude characterize the resident of Lillehammer, Norway.
His merits include five team medals from the World Championships in Liberec 2009, Oslo 2011, Falun 2015 and Lahti 2017, as well as seven World Cup victories and 24 podium results after the season 2016/17.
Next to being a professional athlete, his hobby are sports of all kinds. Mikko likes to play and watch ice hockey, golf and cycling. He is also a huge Liverpool FC fan. During his off time he likes to go on surfing trips around the world. He also has a charity fund called "Mikkofondet" where he works on giving out defibrillators to sports clubs.
