Second edition of the Nordic Combined Awards coming up
Aug 31, 2018·Nordic CombinedWith the season ending on the upcoming weekend in Schonach, it will also be time to reflect on the past season and decorate the athletes who were shining especially brightly in the past winter. The Nordic Combined Awards will be handed out for the second time after the successful maiden edition last year. On Sunday night, athletes, teams and service staff will gather in Schonach’s “Haus des Gastes” to honour outstanding performances. The general public is cordially invited as well.
This year’s Nordic Combined Awards will feature five categories. The nominees are:
Athlete of the Year
- Eric Frenzel
- Johannes Rydzek
- Björn Kircheisen
Rookie of the Year
- Vinzenz Geiger
- Eero Hirvonen
- Espen Andersen
- Paul Gerstgraser
Moment of the Year
- 15 km race TRIPLE, Frenzel strikes back to win yet another TRIPLE trophy
- Johannes Rydzek wins all four gold medals in Lahti
Unluckiest athlete of the year
Will be announced as a surprise at the Prize Giving Ceremony
Comeback of the Year
- Hannu Manninen
New are also two honorary categories in which persons will be honoured for their exceptional contributions to the sport of Nordic Combined. The “Fair Play” Award will be awarded for good sportsmanship and fairness and the “Kai Arne Ringen-Award” will go to one individual, who has contributed to the development of Nordic Combined in an outstanding way.
As in the past year, the awards were supported with prizes by friendly sponsors. World Cup presenting sponsor Viessmann donated the main prize, a brand-new wireless in-ear speaker set, for the Athlete of the Year and a Slackline set for the Rookie of the year, main sponsor Audi added two VIP tickets for the Audi Cup for the Rookie and Moment of the Year and the Ironman organisation presented Hannu Manninen with a free start at an Ironman event of his choice for his phenomenal comeback this winter.
