Save the date: preliminary calendars 2017/18

The FIS Spring Meetings 2017 featured the usual get togethers of the Nordic Combined Sub-Committee for Officials, Rules and Control and the Nordic Combined Executive Board. In both committees, reports and evaluations from the past season were given, new rule proposals discussed and also the preliminary calendars for the summer 2017 and the 2017/18 winter season were introduced.

All final versions of the calendars will be confirmed at the Calendar Conference in Portoroz, Slovenia at the end of May and are subject to the approval of the FIS Council.

Summer Grand Prix 2017

The traditional three stops in Germany and Austria will take place one week earlier, on the last two weekends of August and the calendar will feature Oberwiesenthal (GER), Tschaggus (AUT) and Oberstdorf (GER). The calendar is extended to include another short competition period in early October, featuring two events in Planica (SLO).

World Cup 2017/18

Currently, the World Cup tour will take the athletes to 12 different stops in eight countries with many novelties to come. One venue in December is still to be confirmed, as well as the location of the second Finnish World Cup in March.

Kicking off the season will be three events in Ruka, which are, as of now, set to comprise a new Nordic Combined mini tour. Followed by the usual December stops in Lillehammer (NOR) and Ramsau am Dachstein (AUT), the World Cup will take off with the premiere of Otepää, Estonia, in the new year. This first weekend of January will also feature the first-ever combination event of men’s World Cup and ladies’ Continental Cup in one venue.

Val di Fiemme (ITA), Chaux-Neuve (FRA) and the highlight, the Nordic Combined TRIPLE in Seefeld (AUT), make up the month of January. February marks the return of Hakuba, Japan to the Nordic Combined calendar after an absence of 15 years. Being able to enjoy the benefits of pre-Olympic training camps in the same time zone after the Hakuba weekend, the teams will then head to the Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, Korea.

The season will finish with a very compact last period in Scandinavia. Two events in Finland, the King’s Cup in Oslo and two instead of one event in Trondheim conclude the Scandinavian trip, followed by the beloved finals in Schonach in Germany’s Black Forest region again.

The calendars for the Continental Cup Men & Ladies and the Youth Cup are still awaiting more confirmations and will be presented at the Calendar Conference in Portoroz, Slovenia at the end of May.
