Seidl jumps to PCR win in Oberwiesenthal
Aug 31, 2018·Nordic CombinedThe first Provisional Competition Round of the summer had an Austrian winner: Mario Seidl was the best athlete in Oberwiesenthal with a jump of 102.5 metres. 126.5 points put him 6 seconds ahead of local hero Eric Frenzel, who jumped to 101 metres.
Akito Watabe proved that he is also in good summer jumping shape and claimed position three with 98.5 metres and 120.8 points, which meant a time behind of 28 seconds. Czech youngster Ondrej Pazout lead the competition for a long time and conquered a great final fourth rank with 100 metres (119.5 points). Terence Weber, the other local hero from Oberwiesenthal, delighted the audience with rank five, Taihei Kato ended up in the sixth position.
Poland’s Szczepan Kupczak made his comeback after a shoulder injury and while he did not have his best jump with 96.5 metres and rank 15 in the PCR, he won the first training round with 103 metres. Akito Watabe set the longest jump of the day in the second training round: 106 metres were just half a metre shy of the hill record.
While Takehiro Watanabe had to pass up on today’s event due to illness, Taylor Fletcher, Andreas Ilves, Chingiz Rakparov, Eldar Orussayev and Jonas Welde were disqualified due to irregular suits. As the PCR does not act as a qualification in the Summer Grand Prix, everybody will get the chance to start again in the individual event on Sunday.
