As the last competition of this year’s  FIS Nordic Junior World Championshipsthe 5 km race was scheduled and promised to become an exciting one already during the jumping round. Many athletes were able to show their best jumping performance of the whole week which lead to a total number of 17 athletes starting the race within one minute.

The best performance belonged to Germany’s Luis Lehnert, who landed at 101m, followed by Dominik Terzer (AUT), Vid Vrhovnik (SLO) and Jan Vytrval (CZE), all starting their cross-country race within 10 seconds of the leader.

Already right from the beginning of the race, these four athletes built a group, followed by Ben Loomis (USA) and the Junior World Champion of the 10km race, Ondrej Pazout. On the second of two laps Vrhovnik was able to take the lead and open up a gap that the following athletes were not able to close again.

In the end it was the young Slovenian who celebrated a clear win ahead of Terzer, while Vytrval and Loomis were fighting for the third place until the finish line, with the better end for the Czech athlete.
