Taihei Kato made his debut in the World Cup in Lahti in 2007 and had to wait until 2012 to achieve his first podium result in Oslo, Norway. Since then, he was able to enter the podium a second time, in Lahti in 2013.

The resident of Sapporo, Japan who also starts for the Sapporo Nordic Ski Club was a member of the Japanese National Team for the World Championships in his hometown in 2007, in Liberec in 2009, in Oslo in 2011 and also at the Olympics in Vancouver and Sochi. Together with his teammates Akito Watabe, Yusuke Minato and Norihito Kobayashi, he won the Team Gold at the World Championships in Liberec.

In his leisure time, Taihei likes to relax by reading books or watching TV and play games.
