With the FIS Nordic Ski World Championships in Lahti behind us, it is back to World Cup business and with only four Individual Gundersen events to go, things are heating up in the fight for the overall victory.

Teammates Eric Frenzel and Johannes Rydzek are facing off and for each of the two, big achievements are on the line: Rydzek can win the overall for the first time and crown a spectacular winter, if Frenzel wins, it will be his fifth consecutive overall World Cup victory, a feat which has never achieved in the discipline of Nordic Combined. So the stakes are high and with Oslo and Trondheim, two important venues are waiting for the athletes.

In Oslo, the traditional King’s Cup and a reception by King Harald of Norway are waiting to reward the winning athlete - as received by local hero Jarl Magnus Riiber who won last year - and as large parts of the Norwegian team hail from Trondheim, the home team will be trying their utmost to challenge the dominant German team in front of the home audience. The first non-German victory in full attendance of the German top athletes is also still up for grabs in this winter, so enough motivation for a hard fight should be given.

So who will make a decisive move: Frenzel, Rydzek, one of the Norwegians, Lahti 2017 silver and bronze medallists Akito Watabe or Francois Braud? Or can somebody else step up and make a surprise attack? Buckle up for the last period of the winter 2016/17!
