General Information
Val di Fiemme is a valley in Trentino, Italy and home to 12 different muncipalities with Cavalese being the administrative and Predazzo being the economic centre. The next biggest city is Trento. It is a popular tourist destination in winter and summer, well-known for its marvelous dolomite mountains offering plenty of alpine and nordic skiing opportunities.
Val di Fiemme is surrounded by two natural parks and stunning Dolomite peaks, that Unesco declared World Heritage Site - Corno Bianco, dominating the South-Tyrolean canyon of Bletterbach, Mountain group of Latemar, with its incredible tops, and the park Paneveggio Pale di San Martino.
Fiemme is famous for being “The Valley of Harmony” thanks to the prestigious resonance trees used to realize sounding boards for pianos and violins, once appreciated by Stradivari and nowadays still wanted by internationally-famous luthiers.
The venue
The ski jumping venue is located in Predazzo where two hills are awaiting the athletes in the Guiseppe dal Ben stadium with its capacity of 15.000 spectators: a HS 134 large hill and a HS 106 normal hill. First hills in Predazzo go back until the 1960ies, while the hills in their current shape were built for the World Championships in 1991. After the hills being modernised and used for new editions of the World Championships in 2003 and 2013, Predazzo developed into a popular international training center in winter and summer time.
The Cross-Country stadium is situated approx. five km east of Cavalese, the main city of Val di Fiemme. For more than 50 years the trails in Lago di Tesero have been a great place for practicing cross-country skiing. Its enviable position and its consolidated experience in artificial snow production, also thanks to a cutting-edge system, guarantee perfect tracks. For this reason the centre is open from December to the middle of March, despite it is located only 850 m above sea level.
The stadium, site of the 1991, 2003 and 2013 Nordic World Championships, offers a great variety of tracks. There can be some changes in the tracks, but they are mostly challenging and quite difficult. However the connection to the Marcialonga track guarantees more than 8 kms of easy slopes, mainly flat, in both directions, to Predazzo and to Molina di Fiemme.
Moreover thanks to its lighting system you will get the chance to ski at night as well.
The capacity of the stadium is about 8.000 spectators and on the track approx. 20.000 can follow the competitions. Every January, Cross-Country skiers can take part in the famous ski marathon, "Marcialonga," which starts in Moena and reaches Canazei in Val di Fassa, and then returns to Val di Fiemme while passing by many villages near Cavalese.
