Youth Cup: Success for Germany, Finland and Estonia in Vuokatti
Aug 31, 2018·Nordic Combined21 athletes from five different countries experienced a great start into the international Nordic Combined competition season 2017/18 at the FIS Youth Cup weekend in Vuokatti. Together with younger Finnish boys and girls taking part in an international open competition on the smaller HS 35 hill, the Youth Cup participants jumped on Vuokatti’s HS 54 and skied in the ski tunnel twice. The camp was rounded off with common social activities and a prize giving ceremony held by World Cup athlete Ilkka Herola.
The successes in the three different categories of Girls I, Boys I and Girls II were divided between Germany, Finland and Estonia.
Germany’s Emilia Görlich, Arsi Tietavainen from Finland and Estonian Triinu Hausenberg celebrated double victories each. Görlich celebrated two very uncontested victories, reaching the finish line 1:28.0 and 1:27.0 ahead of her closest pursuer, Anna-Maija Oinas from Finland. On both days, Russian Sofia Kudrina captured rank three.
Arsi Tietavainen’s victories in the boys’ category were tighter, with Tietavainen winning his competition on the cross-country track after fierce resistance on the jumping hill by German Hannes Gehring and Finnish jumping talent Tuomas Kinnunen. In the end, it were 12 seconds that separated the strong skier Tietavainen from teammate Herman Happonen on the first day and 4 seconds that Tietavainen had over Hannes Gehring on the second day.
Triinu Hausenberg dominated more in the Girls II category, beating Russian Olga Aristova by 40 seconds on day I and 35 seconds on day two. Annemarii Bendi from Estonia took two third places.
