COC-M: Norwegian double victory in Klingenthal
Jan 04, 2019·Nordic CombinedThe first of three events of the Continental Cup stop in Klingenthal was firmly in Norwegian hands. Jens Luraas Oftebro had his first victory on Continental Cup level and teammate Leif Torbjørn Næsvold followed up with a career-best second place 22.8 seconds later. Third was 17-year-old Austrian Johannes Lamparter, who crossed the finish line +43.2 seconds after the winner.
Næsvold had jumped to the pole position earlier in the day, showing 139.5 metres. With a point total of 123.7, Næsvold had a nine-second head start on Oftebro (140 m; 121.4 o.) and so the two athletes skied together for big parts of the race. Johannes Lamparter jumped to a career-best 137.5 metres and claimed the third starting position with 119.1 points and a delay of 18 seconds.
With Simen Kvarstad, Dominik Terzer, Simen Tiller, new hill record holder Sindre Ure Søtvik (he jumped to147.5 metres in yesterday’s PCR), Maximilian Pfordte, Simon Hüttel and Go Sonehara, the good jumpers dominated the Top Ten on Klingenthal’s HS 140 Vogtlandarena large hill as expected.
In the race, Oftebro and Næsvold worked together for the first three laps of the 2.5 km course in Johanngeorgenstadt before Oftebro set his attack in the fourth lap. In the end, he crossed the finish line after a long 10 km race, tired but happy. Næsvold was still satisfied with his second place finish.
Also Johannes Lamparter was able to keep the pursuers off his back for the entire 10 km distance. He finished nine seconds earlier than fourth-placed Dominik Terzer, who in turn beat Simen Tiller by a little more than a second. Fast skiers Thomas Jöbstl and Jakob Lange stormed into the Top Ten with the fourth best and best cross-country time (Lange needed 26:46.2 for the 10 km) and improved from positions 13 and 14 respectively to the final sixth and seventh rank.
The Top Ten were completed by David Welde (GER), Ryota Yamamoto (JPN) and Sinde Ure Søtvik (NOR).
