Norway’s World Cup leader Jarl Magnus returned to a top jumping performance in the Provisional Competition Round and won with a jump of 136.5 metres on Trondheim’s HS 138. 145.9 points would put Riiber eight seconds ahead of his rival for the blue bib of the best jumper, Franz-Josef Rehrl. The Austrian showed 135 metres (144 p.) and claimed position two in the start grid.

30 seconds later, Yoshito Watabe (JPN) would start if the PCR has to be used on this weekend in case of difficult wind conditions. The Japanese jumped 133.5 metres and achieved a point total of 136.3 points. To everyone’s surprise, Magnus Krog, the bearer of the red bib of the best skier in the absence of Italy’s Alessandro Pittin claimed rank four with a great effort of 130 metres (132 p.). Espen Bjørnstad, Terence Weber, Akito Watabe, Johannes Rydzek, Ernest Yahin and Fabian Rießle took the remaining podium positions and would leave the start gates between +0:56 and +1:26.

As only 40 athletes are on start in Trondheim, the PCR was no qualification today and all athletes are eligible to start tomorrow, even Ryota Yamamoto, Tomas Portyk, Manuel Faißt and Eric Frenzel, who were disqualified.
