Olympic and World Champion Johannes Rydzek had a big day on the past weekend but for entirely private reasons. One week after his home Summer Grand Prix appearance in Oberstdorf, the 26-year-old married his long-time love Lissi Bayer in a civil ceremony at the “Königliches Jagdhaus” in Oberstdorf.

Rydzek and Bayer know each other from their school days and have been together since 2011. Only the families and close friends were present for the ceremony but the newlyweds were received in style by many members of the ski club Oberstdorf, training partners and other companions as well as two ponies afterwards.

“The days before the big moment have been wave of euphoria already. We had an amazing day with a great civil ceremony and are just overjoyed”, the double Olympic champion said. The church wedding is planned for the summer of 2019.
