German Nordic Combined World Cup hosts Klingenthal are warming up for the big event of their winter with a busy January: about 400 athletes from 16 nations will travel to the Vogtland this winter. First up: a joint Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined Continental Cup on the first weekend of January.

While the Nordic Combined ladies share the big stage in Otepää (EST) with the World Cup men, the men’s Continental Cup will be joining forces with its Ski Jumping counterpart. “The parallel Continental Cups will be s special challenge for all helpers but they will be a very good dress rehearsal for the Nordic Combined World Cup at the beginning of February”, says OC Chief Alexander Ziron.

65 Nordic Combined athletes and 68 Ski Jumpers from 15 nations are entered for the competitions and the weather gods also smiled on Klingenthal with a longer period of frost and natural snow falls before Christmas, so that snow controller Rudi Tusch (DSV) was able to give green light for the snow control.

Now, every hour is used to prepare Klingenthal’s HS 140 large hill. A large amount of artificial snow prepared before the holidays is being distributed on the landing slope and outrun since Thursday. As customary for the Continental Cup, the cross-country races were planned ski stadium in Mühlleiten but had to be moved to Johanngeorgenstadt, about 30 km away from Klingenthal due to a restricted snow situation in Klingenthal.

Three competitions are on schedule for the Nordic Combined athletes, among them the first edition of the revamped concept of the team event, featuring two “normal” 5 km legs and two shorter 2.5 km legs for two of the four athletes on one team.

The organisators would like to point out that a weekend ticket for the World Cup gives its holders free entrance to the Continental Cup events coming up. Day tickets for the Continental Cup events cost 6 Euro, concession 4 Euro. Tickets and more information can be found on www.weltcup-klingenthal.de.
