Edgar Vallet (FRA) was the clear winner of the 10 km Individual Gundersen OPA Alpencup event held in Schonach last weekend, while Austria’s Max Teeling claimed the 5 km victory on the following day. While Vallet beat Austrian duo Fabio Obermeyr and Florian Dagn by 19.3 and 20.2 seconds respectively, Teeling’s victory was more contested with teammates Stefan Rettenegger and Marc Luis Rainer finishing only 8 and 10.3 seconds after Teeling.

Vallet was already at the top of the result list after the jumping part. A jump of 98 metres gave the Frenchman a head start of eight seconds on runner-up Manuel Einkemmer from Austria. Dominik Terzer started 28 seconds further behind on rank three.

In the race, Obermeyr worked his way to the front from rank 20 after the jumping event. The second-fastest cross-country time of 25:12.2 ultimately had the Austrian overtake teammates Florian Dagn, Stefan Rettenegger, Marc Luis Rainer, Thomas Rettenegger and Max Teelnin, who claimed positions three to seven in a great Austrian team result. Theo Rochat (FRA), Dominik Terzer (AUT) and Domenico Mariotti (ITA) claimed the rest of the Top Ten positions.

On Sunday, wet snow hindered the men’s  jumping round from taking place and so Friday’s PCR had to be used. Dominik Terzer was the best jumper with 97 metres and claimed a head start of 28 seconds on Edgar Vallet (+0:28) and Manuel Einkemmer (+0:32).

An Austrian trio was approaching fast in the race and finally it was Max Teeling, who proved to be the second-fastest man in the 5 km race. A time of 12:36.3 put him on the top step of the podium, eight seconds ahead of runner-up Stefan Rettenegger. Marc Luis Rainer followed with the fourth-fastest cross-country time and completed the Austrian podium sweep. Edgar Vallet narrowly missed out on another podium with rank four. Fabio Obermeyr, Jonas Maier, Manuel Einkemmer, David Zemek, Florian Dagn and Giulio Bezzi claimed the Top Ten positions.
