Positive snow control for Lillehammer

The World Cup in Lillehammer (NOR) has been green-lighted. In spite of the same snowless situation as in Ruka (FIN), the Norwegian organisers managed to prepare the two jumping hills and the cross-country tracks needed with artificial snow.
“Due to stable, cold weather, the snow production has been going on since last Monday evening. Even though there is still some work to be done, we can confirm both jumping hills, the normal and the large hill, for the upcoming weekend”, Snow Controller Terje Lund reports.
The arrival of the cold weather front also helped with the preparation of the cross-country track in Birkebeineren stadium. Together with 15.000 to 16.000 m3 of snow from the snow storage and some cold nights of snow production, the preparation of a 2.5 km course was possible without problems.
With training options in Sjusjøen and a finished course right after the Ruka weekend, the teams are facing good conditions to prepare for the first highlight of the winter: the Lillehammer tour.
Lillehammer will have competitions in Cross-Country Skiing, Ladies’ Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined on the programme, with Nordic Combined kicking into high gear. On three consecutive days, the athletes will be competing in three different individual formats (Ind. Gundersen 5 km, Mass Start and Ind. Gundersen 10 km). The athlete with the most World Cup points is the 2019 Lillehammer tour winner.
