One year after his team- and clubmate Johannes Rydzek won the most important award in German sports, the German Nordic Combined team did not leave empty-handed again.

The 21-year-old won in the category of “Newcomer of the Year”, an award endowed by the “Glückspirale”, a German lottery. Geiger was honoured for his successes: three World Cup podiums, a Junior World Championship title in Utah 2017 and his team gold from the Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang 2018.

Johannes Rydzek, nominated as athlete of the year again, was on location to present Geiger with his prize, 8.000 € for himself and another 8.000 € for his club, the Ski Club Oberstdorf.
