Big names on start in Norges Cup in Oslo

The third weekend of the 2019/19 Norges Cup took place in Oslo last weekend and with the World and Continental Cup competition breaks, some famous names were on the start list of the men’s and women’s events in Oslo. A Mass Start was on schedule on Saturday, while and Individual Gundersen event closed out the weekend on Sunday.

Sebastian Østvold and Thea Minyan Bjørseth celebrated double victories in the NC-B and women’s categories, while Einar Lurås Oftebro and Espen Andersen split the victories in the men’s NC-A category.

Østvold, Minyan Bjørseth and Oftebro master Mass Start

Emil Ottesen, Hanna Midtsundstad and Lars Burås were the fastest skiers in the Mass Start cross-country race. Ottesen won in NC-B with three seconds on teammate Sebastian Østvold and nine second ahead of Johan Fredriksen Orset. Midtsundstad completed the 5 km course in 12:37 and claimed a bonus of 18 seconds on runner-up Daniela Dejori from Italy. Marte Leinan Lund was third, +0:22 seconds behind Midsundstad. Lars Burås needed 22:06 for the 10 km and finished 14 seconds ahead of Jakob Eiksund Sæthre. The intermediate third position was shared by Emil Vilhelmsen and Einar Oftebro (+0:17).

Cross-Country Results

The second longest jump in his category (101 m; 118,6 p) were enough for Sebastian Østvold to claim the victory with 116 points and 2.4 points ahead of runner-up Marius Solvik. Solvik had the longest jump of 104.5 me (130.4 p.) and improved from position nine and +16.8 p. after the cross-country race to close out his competition with 113.6 p. Emil Ottesen was third with 112.8 p.

Thea Minyan Bjørseth was the woman to beat on the jumping hill and fulfilled the expectations connected to her role of jumping prodigy by showing 89 metres. 102 points gave her the victory, 17.3 points ahead of Mari Leinan Lund, who jumped 81.5 metres (79.4 p.). Hanna Midtsundstad salvaged the third place with a jump of 77 metres (68.4 p.).

World Cup tried Kasper Moen Flatla ruled on the jumping hill with 99 metres in the NC-A category and 119.5 points. As Einar Oftebro countered with 96. 5 m and 117.2 points, the final victory went to Oftebro with 113 points. Flatla was beaten by 0.5 points and Jakob Sæthre finished on rank three with 107.3 p., 5.7 points behind Oftebro.

Final Results

Østvold and Minyan Bjørseth keep on winning, Andersen grabs IG win

Sebastian Østvold, Thea Minyan Bjørseth and Einar Lurås Oftebro were the best jumpers on the following day in the jumping round of the Ind. Gundersen events with 101 m (116.5 p)., 92 (102.2 p.) and 103 metres (123.3 p.).

Østvold celebrated a start - finish victory after starting 19 seconds ahead of runner up Marius Nordsveen and 24 seconds ahead of Emil Ottesen, who claimed the second place in the final ranking. Marius Solvik was third in the NC-B category.

In the women’s race, Minyan Bjørseth was similarly unendangered and crossed the finish line one minute and 14 seconds ahead of runner-up Mari Leinan Lund. Daniela Dejori was third, +1:44 after the winner.

In the men’s race, Espen Andersen used his fourth place after the jumping round to play catch-up on the track. Even though 41 seconds separated him from leader Einar Oftebro, who did not start the cross-country race, Andersen was able to overtake all other athletes skiing in front of him and crossed the finish line six seconds ahead of Jakob Eiksund Sæthre and 10 seconds ahead of Kaspen Moen Flatla.
