During the FIS Technical Committee meetings at Hilton Airport Hotel in Zürich last week, the Nordic Combined Committee also had its customary autumn meeting on Friday, 4th of October.

FIS Race Director Lasse Ottesen and his team presented reports and evaluations from the 2019 FIS Summer Grand Prix and FIS Youth Cup. The summer events this year were highly successful, not only in terms of the sporting level but also due to major innovations and investments being made in the sport. One of them, the livestreaming service from Oberwiesenthal and Klingenthal was analysed in detail, with the production company Teleho present on site to answer detailed questions.

Suzanne Tahk of the Women’s Nordic Combined Working Group presented interesting insights that a National Ski Association survey on the development of Women’s Nordic Combined delivered, stressing that it is up to all stakeholders to really get active, to host events, to build up athletes and to organise themselves if progress is to continue on the same great level as displayed in the last years.

Future FIS Ski Jumping Race Director Sandro Pertile reported on his current project, the FIS Development Camps and gave the committee members an overview over the measures taken for developing nations in the Nordic disciplines.

Topics discussed in detail by the committee members included the Women’s World Cup rules, which will be finalised next spring, the timing costs for the FIS Nordic Combined Continental Cup, the number and course access procedure for the team staff on the FIS Nordic Combined World Cup, the future World Championship programme for Nordic Combined and the Best Jumper and Best Skier bibs.

Ottesen also presented the drafts for the 2020/21 FIS Nordic Combined World Cup calendars. As of now, the women’s tour includes three, possibly four venues, plus the FIS Nordic World Ski Championship debut in Oberstdorf (GER). The men can look forward to a return of French venue Chaux-Neuve (FRA) and the test event for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing (CHN) next to the title event in Germany.
