In the second edition of “Get to know”, the spotlight is on Italian youngster Giulio Bezzi, who debuted on the World Cup in Val di Fiemme this year. The 20-year-old has mainly been competing in the Alpencup since 2013/14 and took the step up into the Continental Cup at the beginning of the 2019/20 winter as well.

How did you start with skiing / Nordic Combined?

I started with skiing when I was two or three years old. My dad gave me my first pair of skis on the slopes near my house, here in Val di Sole. I did my first jumps when I was six years old. My dad, the chairman of the local sports club, and coach Walter Cogoli decided to assemble a young team in Pellizzano, where we have two hills.

Why did you pick Nordic Combined as your sport, what fascinates you most about it?

The beauty of nordic Combined is that the ski jumping and the cross country skiing are two completely different sports. To win you have to be strong in both.

Which one do you have to work harder on, the ski jumping or the cross-country skiing?

I'll have to work harder in general but especially in the cross-country skiing part. But of course I also have to keep improving my jumps, to become a competitive athlete.

Do you have a sports idol/role model (inside or outside of Nordic Combined)?

My sports idol is Akito Watabe because he is a consistent athlete in both disciplines and I've always followed him on TV. I also follow the Formula 1 a lot. My favourite pilot is Fernando Alonso because of the way he was always focused on his main goal.

What was your greatest/best/most exciting moment in Nordic Combined so far?

My greatest moment in my career so fare are my debut in World Cup in Val di Fiemme this year. Also my  first international podium in the Alpen Cup in Winterberg in 2017 was a moment to remember.

What are your goals for the next season?

My goal for the next season are the improve my performance consistency. I will work on achieving some good results in Continental Cup and hopefully get the chance to participate in some World Cup races. But my big dream are the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf!
