After many years of being part of the FIS Nordic Combined Summer Grand Prix, Oberstdorf (GER) returns to the World Cup - for their first winter events since 2014. As a pre-World Championship test event, the German venue is now presenting extensive renovations, improvements and construction work to the world - in the framework of a joint weekend of the Viessmann FIS Nordic Combined and the Coop FIS Cross-Country World Cups.

A summer full of construction work brought many changes in the ski jumping stadium and on the cross-country tracks in Ried and many teams are taking the chances to familiarise themselves with the new buildings, walkways, structures and to discover their future World Championship quarters.

On the sports side, the weekend promises exciting sports with the top question being if Jarl Magnus Riiber (NOR) will continue or even extend his dominance of the field, now that the competitions return to the large hill. His challenger, Vinzenz Geiger, is a true Oberstdorf local and will of course try his utmost to unseat Riiber in the top seat. A Team Event on Saturday will also be an important test for the medal event at Oberstdorf 2021 next year and pit the strong Norwegian team against challengers from Germany, Austria, Japan, Italy, the Czech Republic, Finland, Russia and the USA.

For spectators, the weekend will bring a novel experience in a brand-new cross-country stadium and the first chance to cheer on local heroes Johannes Rydzek and Vinzenz Geiger, on snow in Oberstdorf since 2014.

Together with many volunteers, the Organising Committee has worked tirelessly to provide perfect conditions for the best Nordic Combined and Cross-Country athletes this weekend. The stage is set for a great dress rehearsal of the 2021 FIS Nordic Ski World Championships and a Nordic Combined return to Oberstdorf is more than set.
