Ilkka Herola wins Lieksan Vaskiyhdistetty

Ilkka Herola clinched the first victory of the summer with a win at the traditional “Vaskiyhdistetty” held in Lieksa. After showing the best jumps on Lieksa’s K 55, Herola was also the fastest athlete on roller-skis, finishing the course in 22:25.0 and claiming the win over runner-up Eero Hirvonen.

On the jumping hill, Herola flew to 56 and 55 metres and a combined point total of 135.6 had him start 12 seconds ahead of Eero Hirvonen, who showed 56 and 55 metres, too. Perttu Reponen held the third starting position with 13 seconds to make up on Herola and Leevi Mutru started his race one second after Reponen.

In the end, Hirvonen crossed the finish line 31 seconds after Herola but managed to hold off third-placed Leevi Mutru by two seconds. Perttu Reponen had to be content with position four, Matti Herola and Korean athlete Je-In Park claimed ranks five and six out of the 13 starters.
