After the crashing at the Russian National Championships in Chaikovsky, Vitaliy Ivanov was taken to St. Petersburg to undergo an MRT. The results showed a rupture of the ACL in the left knee, a rupture of the thigh ligament and an injury of the meniscus. On the 9th of October, Ivanov underwent the surgery and has been recovering in the hospital until now. According to him, the 20-year-old will be discharged today.

“Everything went well, the doctors were able to fix my ligaments without replacing them with artificial ones. Therefore, my prognosis is good. In a month I’ll hopefully able to start walking and in two months, it will be possible to begin with the recovery training. Of course, that still means that I will have to skip the first stages of the World Cup and I have only very little chance to compete in February or in March. It's a shame because I was in a very good shape and achieved good results in the summer, both at the Grand Prix and at the Championships of Russia. But I don't give up. I am ready to go this way!” Ivanov said.
