A harsh blow for Mario Seidl: the 26-year-old tore his ACL again during Friday’s official training for the Summer Grand Prix 2019 in Planica and will have to sit the entire winter 2019/20 out.

Last year’s TRIPLE winner had just returned from a partial ACL tear during the World Championships in Seefeld (AUT) and was making his second training jump back on the international competition level when his left knee collapsed on the impact of the landing of an 134.5 metre jump and Seidl crashed.

Seidl was transported to the private clinic Maria Hilf in Klagenfurt where preliminary examinations resulted in a possible new ACL rupture. On Saturday morning, he was transported to the clinic Diakonissen in Lienz to undergo an MRT. The result confirmed the preliminary diagnosis of an ACL rupture plus an injury of the meniscus. Seidl underwent surgery on Saturday afternoon.

Dr. Jürgen Barthofer: “Mario’s knee surgery went well. We treated the ACL surgically and removed parts of the meniscus and a small cartilage damage. Mario will be able to leave the hospital on Monday but due to his injuries, he will miss the entire upcoming season.”
