This weekend in Chaikovskiy, the Russian Nordic Combined athletes closed the summer season, with their National Championships. The programme consisted of three competitons: two for men and one for women.

Nadymova stays on top, promising developments in women’s field

On Friday, both men's and women's competitions were held on the normal hill. Stefaniya Nadymova showed the best result in the Ski Jumping part. Maria Yakovleva was second, but her jump was quite a bit longer than the leader's one. The older sister of Lydia Yakovleva, who performed so successfully in the special Ski Jumping last season, has begun to explore Nordic Combined only this year.

The race was ended with the victory of Stefaniya Nadymova. As usual, fast skier Anastasia Goncharova showed a very good result on the track. She started with a delay of almost two and a half minutes and finished secondby reducing her gap to 25 seconds. Alexandra Glazunova claimed the bronze medal. Diana Fedorova. A 15-year-old girl from Krasnoyarsk who had already won medals at the Youth Cup competition in Oberhof in August and took the fourth place on Friday. Maria Yakovleva and Chulpan Valievawere the fifth and the sixth.

"Two leaders confirmed their status. Unfortunately, both girls jumped worse than they are actually able to. But even this jump was enough for Stefaniya. Anastasia worked out the race well, as always and the struggle for the third place was only decided on the first lap. Glazunova left Fedorova on the third climb of the first lap and the question was whether she could save the second position or not. Fedorova had a good jump and a decent race. Yakovleva was able to find the strength and finish on the fifth place. I'm happy for these girls. The sixth position was closed by Valieva, it's also a good result. Unfortunately, Gladikova didn't take part in the race. She had a crash on the hill and injured herself” - the coach of women's national team Denis Tishagin tells.

Ivanov claims men’s title on the normal hill

Men's competition began with a surprise. The Summer Grand Prix showed that Vitaliy Ivanov made progress on the hill but the fact that he won the jumping part of the competition came as a surprise. Ernest Yahin who for many years absolutely dominated at Russian competitionswas only third on the hill (+ 22 seconds), losing not only to Ivanov but also to Alexander Milanin.

After the race Vitaliy Ivanov remained the first. His main rival Ernest Yahin not only didn't catch him but lost another 7 seconds. However, Yahin could take the second place and added silver to his collection of gold medals. For the last lap Alexander Milanin, Timofey Borisov and Vyacheslav Barkov skied together but on the last climb Barkov was faster and crossed the finish line the third after Ivanov and Yahin. Borisov was the fourth, Milanin had the fifth result and Samir Mastiev closed the top six.

Yahin takes large hill title, Ivanov crashes and injures himself

On Sunday, the men competed on the large hill. The day before, the PCR was held and during it,  Vitaliy Ivanov injured himself. He had shown the best distance (138,5 meters) but crashed on the landing. After the initial examination, it’s still not clear how serious his injury is and what the rehabilitation time might be.

In the official competition round, Alexandr Milanin was the first again, Ernest Yahin lost 3.6 points (14 seconds) on him. Timofey Borisov took the third current place but was almost a minute behind at the start line.

The race was very easy for Yahin and he took one more national championship title. In the the final lap, Timofey Borisov closed the gap to Milanin and then beat him in the finish fight for the second place. Konstantin Abramov finished the fourth, Alexandr Kolganov was the fifth and Dmitriy Gelvig showed the sixth result.

"I'm satisfied after the race. I was ready for fighting for prizes today and I'm happy for our team of the Moscow region. All three of our athletes (Borisov, Abramov, Kolganov) ended the race in top six. I think it's the result of our training camp on the Issyk-Kul lake in Kyrgyzstan this September", Kolganov tells.
