With two Individual Gundersen events for men and women, the Nordic Combined action at the FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Oberwiesenthal (GER) begins tomorrow. On schedule are also the first-ever Nordic Combined Junior World Ski Championship Mixed Team event on Friday and a men’s Team Event on Sunday.

All events will be available as a livestream on the organiser website www.jwm2020.de, the organiser social media channels and the FIS Nordic Combined Facebook page and youtube channel. You can also follow on the embedded player at the bottom of this page.

Looking to defend their titles are Japan’s Ayane Miyazaki, the first-ever women’s Junior World Champion in Nordic Combined and Austria’s Johannes Lamparter, who had won the Individual Gundersen 10 km event in Lahti in 2019.

34 competitors from 13 nations are vying for the women’s titles with last year’s silver medallist Gyda Westvold Hansen (NOR), Japan’s title defender Miyazaki, recent COC winner Anju Nakamura (JPN), Norwegian fellow COC winner Marte Leinan Lund and German local hero Jenny Nowak hailed as the favourites.

On the men’s side, 67 athletes from 17 countries fight for the medals and Norwegian World Cup shooting star Jens Lurås Oftebro is the big favourite to come away with gold this year. But also 2019 gold medallist Johannes Lamparter (AUT) is no stranger to World Cup air, and COC winners Manuel Einkemmer and YOG 2020 gold medallist Stefan Rettenegger (both AUT) are after the medals as well. Especially on the cross-country track, the Finnish team will be a big threat with the fast Karhumaa brothers, Perttu Reponen and Otto Niittykoski.

The championship premiere of the Nordic Combined Mixed Team event promises to shake things up quite a bit with a projected 11 teams fighting for the first-ever medals. At the premiere edition of the event during the Summer Grand Prix 2019 in Oberwiesenthal, the victory went to Italy, ahead of Norway and Russia.

With said Nordic Combined Summer Grand Prix as a fixture on the annual calendar in Oberwiesenthal and a Continental Cup test event this January, the organisers can look back on a lot of experience in hosting Nordic Combined events, so that the stage will be set perfectly for four exhilarating competitions.
