Nordic Combined Summer Grand Prix starts with world premiere

The 2019 FIS Nordic Combined Summer Grand Prix will get underway this weekend and includes a packed programme with eight events over 16 days for men and a considerably extended version for women with five events in nine days.
First up this weekend is the traditional German venue of Oberwiesenthal, which is celebrating its 10thanniversary edition in hosting the first-ever Mixed Team event in Nordic Combined. Jenny Nowak (GER), Gyda Westvold Hansen (NOR) and Lisa Hirner (AUT) will team up with top stars like Eric Frenzel (GER), Magnus Krog (NOR) and Bernhard Gruber (AUT) to see which nation combines ski jumping and cross-country skiing best.
The Summer Grand Prix 2019 will then feature a mid-week stop in Klingenthal (GER), which includes the first summer Mass Start event in recent years, before a Nordic Combined “Super Summer Cup” in Oberhof (GER) will unite the world’s elite of male and female athletes with their young counterparts from the FIS Nordic Combined Youth Cup. For Oberhof, the weekend marks the return to hosting high-level Nordic Combined events after an absence of 12 years from the international calendar.
The men’s tour will the move on with a mid-week event in Montafon (AUT) followed by a big final weekend in Planica (SLO), host of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2023.
Last year, Stefaniya Nadimova (RUS) and Tara Geraghty-Moats (USA) shared the overall victories on the women’s side, while Mario Seidl (AUT) prevailed in an intense batted with Ilkka Herola (FIN) on the men’s side.
To win the overall title in the Nordic Combined Summer Grand Prix, an athlete has to start in all individual events. The competition series is an important test and first international comparison for the FIS Nordic Combined World season 2019/20, which will be the main focus in the winter without any title event competitions.
