Austria’s Lisa Hirner and Stefan Rettenegger, as well as Germany’s Nick Siegemund took the wins during the OPA Alpencup weekend in Val di Fiemme.

A Mass Start and an Individual Gundersen were on schedule for men and women with the Mass Start kicking off the competition weekend on Saturday. Typically an event for the stronger jumpers, the fast cross-country skiers took the spotlight first with Emilia Görlich (GER) and Lenard Kersting (GER) winning the 5 and 10-km races.

Görlich crossed the finish line five seconds ahead of teammate Jenny Nowak and seven seconds ahead of fellow German Emily Schneider, underlining the strong skiing shape of the German team. Italy’s Annika Sieff was fourth and strong jumper Lisa Hirner sixth but with only 10 seconds, or -2.5 points to make up.

On the men’s side, Kersting won by 10 seconds on Italian Domenico Mariotti, Nick Siegemund followed as third, +0:10 after Kersting and had to make up -2.5 points on the hill as well.

With a distance of 93 metres, Hirner clearly had the best jump of the day and collected a point total of 101.5 points, beating out Annika Sieff (87 m, 93 p.) for the victory. Hirner’s Austrian teammate Annalena Slamik jumped to the third position with 91 metres (87.5 p.), leaving the unlucky fourth position to Jenny Nowak (83.5 p.). Jumping winner Görlich finished on rank 14.
