Riiber remains the man to beat in Lahti PCR

Even though the increasing tailwind was not in favour of many of the Nordic Combined athletes in today’s Provisional Competition Round in Lahti, Jarl Magnus Riiber returned to his customary position at the very top of the result list. With 122 metres and 135.5 points, Riiber would lead the cross-country race by 14 seconds.

His teammate and blue bib bearer Jens Lurås Oftebro took the second place with 119.5 metres (132 p.) Finland’s Ilkka Herola surprised with a very strong appearance on the hill and complete a result that that the yellow, blue and red bibs on ranks 1, 2 and 3: the local hero jumped to 118 metres and 127.9 points meant he would take up his race only 30 seconds after Riiber.

Estonian Kristjan Ilves was also strong today with 120 metres and 127.4 points and would start only two seconds after Herola. Akito Watabe (+0:45) was fifth and Espen Bjørnstad (+0:53) sixth and these two athletes concluded the group beginning their races within the first minute of Jarl Magnus Riiber. Martin Fritz and Terence Weber followed with starting times of +1:02 and +1:03 and Manuel Faißt and Philipp Orter completed the jumping Top Ten at +1:09 and +1:15.

Fast skiers Jørgen Graabak and Thomas Jöbstl would begin their races from positions 13 and 15, +1:23 and +1:30 after the leader. For the German big names, the round did end a little further back in the result list with Johannes Rydzek on rank 20, Vinzenz Geiger on position 24, Fabian Rießle on 26 and Eric Frenzel on 29.
