Successful inspection at Olympic venue in Beijing

Nordic Combined Race Director Lasse Ottesen and his Nordic colleagues have been busy in Beijing (CHN) in the last days. Walter Hofer, Pierre Mignerey and Ottesen visited both the Ski Jumping and the Cross-Country venues and were briefed on the progress of construction.

Important steps have been made since the last inspection in November 2018 and both venues are on schedule, the Cross-Country facility even ahead of schedule.

In the Cross-Country venue, the first national test events in Cross-Country Skiing will take place in the upcoming winter and as of now, the tracks are 90% ready. Snowmaking and lighting systems will be installed this summer. The foundation for the stadium has been laid and it is expected to be finished by early 2020.

Most of the groundworks for the ski jumping hills has been done and also here, the foundations are already in place. The main frames of the jumps will be in place by October this year and the facilities are scheduled to be open for jumping by fall 2020.

Lasse Ottesen: “Our visit to Zhangjiakou/Chongli, where the Nordic venues for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics are located has been an interesting one. It was good to see the great progress since our last inspection. The organisers are on schedule and we are really looking forward to the completion of the venues end of 2020.”
