After exciting two weeks of competitions in Oberwiesenthal (GER), Klingenthal (GER) and Oberhof (GER), featuring men’s and women’s events as well as the FIS Youth Cup, the Nordic Combined Summer Grand Prix 2019 for men concludes this week.

Two last stops in Tschagguns and Partenen in Austria’s Montafon valley and in Planica (SLO) are on schedule until next Sunday. One Individual Gundersen event will take place in Austria, giving GP leader Franz-Josef Rehrl an extra boost with a home crowed, before two final events at Slovenia’s big Nordic centre conclude the international competition summer on the highest level of Nordic Combined.

With Rehrl’s main adversary Akito Watabe gone back home to Japan to refuel before a long winter season abroad, the Austrian is right on track to collect the lion’s share of the 18.750 CHF prize money pot for the overall Top Three athletes of the summer standings. He has collected 306 points so far.

In contention for the overall victory or one of the other two remaining podium positions, are also Samuel Costa (160 p.), Antoine Gerard (143), Fabian Rießle (94) and Harald Riiber (80), who have all started in all events so far and are entered for the next competition in Montafon as well. As per Summer Grand Prix rules, only athletes starting in all individual events are eligible for the Final Summer Grand Prix standings and the prize money in the end. With 300 points still on the line, many changes are possible.

German team leader and Montafon hill record holder Eric Frenzel is also back on track after a stomach bug had kept him largely out of contention in the German week of the Grand Prix. “With the Montafon, I associate the Piz Buin, a beautiful Alpine landscape and our Summer Grand Prix stop. I am keen to see in which shape I can present myself here now.”
