Volavsek and Vrhovnik are Slovenian national champions

The Summer National Championships in Nordic Combined also took place in Planica (SLO) on the last weekend with male and female athletes competing to find their new champions 2019.

For the second time in history, the National Championship of Nordic Combined Women was held and the order of the first three places was identical to last year. The new title was won by Ema Volavšek ahead of Silva Verbič and Špela Mastnak.

Volavsek jumped to 84 metres and intermediate position two with 87 points. Teammate Silva Verbic showed 87 metres (94.5 points) and started the race from the pole position. Spela Mastnak was third with 81.5 metres, Tinkara Gros fourth with 67 metres. With a time of 17:23.0 Volavsek claimed the title 17 seconds ahead of Verbic. Mastnak claimed bronze with a respectful distance of +1:45.0 at the finish line.

Results

On the men’s side, Vid Vrhovnik a new member of the club SSK Ljubno BTC won ahead of his former club colleagues, Ozbej and Rok Jelen.

Even though Nejc Dezman lead the jumping part with 100.5 metres (123.5 p.) ahead of Uros Vrbek (97 m; 117 p.), Vrhovnik claimed a clear win of 53 seconds at the finish line, starting his race from position three (96.5 m, 115.5 p.). The fastest cross-country time of 23:29.0 was enough to close the 32-second gap on leader Dezman. Ozbej Jelen and Rok Jelen also advance on the track with the second and fifth-fastest times to claim the medals +0:53 seconds and one minute and one second behind Vrhovnik.

Jumping winner Dezman ended up on position 15 but 16-year-old Uros Vrbek from SSK Smartno in Pohorje shone with rank four, just eight seconds behind the medal positions.
