As expected, the snow control for the Nordic Opening in Ruka (FIN) was positive. As in many places in Scandinavia and the Alps, winter has arrived early in Ruka this year and the organisers could benefit of minus degrees and quite a bit of snowfall for several weeks now.

Jumping Hill
Snow Controller Pekka Hyvarinen reported on a good level of preparation on the jumping hill. The facility is ready and the last fine tuning for the World Cup event will be done at the beginning of next week.

Cross-Country Track
The course network in Ruka is also in a good shape. Snow Controller Annmari Viljanmaa reported that the stadium and the whole 5 km course is already fully covered with 40cm of artificial snow and about 30cm of natural snow, with a wideness of 6-9 metres.

In addition, 5 km of tourist courses are available for skating outside of the competition course. Starting point for the tourist courses is from Ruka Village.

The longterm weather forecast also looks promising with minus degrees for the entire next week and the competition weekend.

The organisers are happy to welcome the Nordic  family in Finland to start the winter season in very good conditions.
