Without any new World Cup competitions last weekend, we’d like to take the opportunity to shine some light on the second breakout performance of the Ruka weekend:

Not only did 19-year-old Johannes Lamparter claim his career-first podium, he also pushed World Cup dominator Jarl Magnus Riiber to his absolute maximum in the first event and comfortable held his own against fast skiers like his German namesake Johannes Rydzek on the track.

But not only this. With his performances, Lamparter was the only athlete who could have toppled Riiber from his Ruka Tour throne if he had won the event on Sunday. Lamparter finished fourth (the second of two very respectable Top Ten ranks of the weekend), which gave him the third place in the Ruka Tour in the end.

Named “Rookie of the Year” in the Nordic Combined Awards 2019, the Austrian shooting star has been on a steep trajectory upwards in the world of Nordic Combined. First Alpencup victory: 17.02.2018, first Continental Cup podium: 04.01.2019, FIS Junior World Championship title: 27.01.2019, first World Cup podium: 27.11.2020.

With lots of talent, a positive, sunny disposition and time on his side as he will mature into his cross-country strength, Lamparter should be added high on all Nordic Combined fans’ to watch lists from now on.
