Eero Hirvonen’s hand and wrist troubles are not over yet. After the 25-year-old Finn had a painful swelling on his wrist already during the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf, he now had to undergo surgery.

“The problems with my wrist caused the thumb extender to eventually tear. Inflammation and swelling caused by exertion consumed the tendon and this resulted in a tendon rupture,” says Hirvonen.

He underwent successful surgery last Friday and the recovery is well underway. The hand support will be removed six weeks after surgery and then normal training should be achieved fairly quickly.

“Fortunately, at this point in the year, this doesn’t matter much to training, even though spring workouts will start a little more foot-focused than normal”, Hirvonen continued.
